The Blue Orchid

Michela Marzocchi

artist based in Ravenna, Italy. 1995.

master in Sculpture (Visual Arts), Academy of Fine Arts Bologna (2020)

degree in Sculpture, Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna (2017)

Welcome to my archive. I needed a place where to organize thoughts and my works and show them, so I made this website with blog vibes.

This is a place where I just show what I do unpretentiously, and If you like my art, thank you!

Sculptor, painter, illustrator, musician. Basically defined by the current mood. They tell me I'm a good portraitist.

I'm a proud feminist, and Feminism is the main theme of my art: what I want to do with my art is to spread feminism contents and my relationship with it, and to activate into the viewer thoughts about it, like female pride and equality in general. You can call it activism, but I feel I need to say this thoughts with art.

I like faces, flowers, music, drawing anatomy, animals, elves.

Thank you for visiting!

The Blue Orchid is a concept: the word
"Orchid" comes from the Greek, and means "testicles", in reference to the shape of its roots and bulbs.
Ironically, the shapes of its flowers though
they resemble the vagina, in fact it is the flower
which is associated with femininity and sensuality.
The blue orchid is very rare in nature, and it is interesting to note that blue is the color stereotypically associated to masculinity, and that it is very rare to find this plant that carries the name of the male genitalia in what we consider a "male" color.

In my works about feminist thematic  I use the name "Blue Orchid" because it express the kind of woman and person I want to be: free from stereotypes, free to be what I want, unique in its own identity. And I hope to help other people, through my work, to become blue orchids.

In the "Feminism" area you'll find works dedicated to the main theme I work about, which is obviously feminism.

In the "Works" area you'll find different kinds of works, like sculpture, painting and illustrations.

La Zebra is a project of a very dear friend of mine who deals with artistic disclosure, with the aim of breaking through elitism within the art world using a sparkling and catchy language.
On International Women's Day she posted a video in which she talks about female artists that she wants to support, and she has dedicated some space for me too.
